Introduction of Reflector

2021-10-15

The Definition of Reflector

Reflector is an optical element that working with the law of reflection. Reflectors can be classified as plane reflector, spherical reflector and aspherical reflector according to shape. As per the degree of reflection, it can be classified as all- reflection mirror and semi-transparent semi-reflection mirror (also known as beam splitting mirror).

Functions

In the laser tube, reflector can be used as the tail mirror and the base of the mirror has a certain curvature, which plays the role of oscillating the laser.  In some laser designs, the laser reflector can change the light in the laser tube and reduce the length . Outside the laser tube, the reflector and the focusing mirror cooperate to form a complete optical path, which makes the design of the laser machine more space-saving, reduces the laser loss as much as possible and retains the laser working power to the maximum extent.

Common substrate

Silicon --- the most commonly used reflector substrate, which has the advantages of low cost, strong durability and stable thermal properties.

Copper --- commonly used in high-power applications because of its high thermal conductivity.

Molybdenum --- has extremely high surface strength, making it an ideal material for a variety of demanding physical environments.  Molybdenum is usually provided without coating.

Common Coating materials and coating technology for Reflectors

In the past, when making reflectors, silver is often plated on glass. The standard process is : Vacuum steaming aluminum on a highly polished substrate  and then coat it with silicon monoxide or magnesium fluoride. In special applications, the loss caused by the metal can be replaced by a multi-layer dielectric film.  Since the law of reflection is independent of the frequency of light, this kind of element operates in a wide band, which can reach the ULTRAVIOLET and infrared regions of the visible spectrum, so its application is more and more wide.

An optical element that causes incident light to reflect by coating a thin film of metallic silver (or aluminum) on the back of optical glass by vacuum plating.  The output power of the laser can be doubled by using a reflector with high reflection ratio, also is the first reflection surface reflection, reflection image without distortion, no glint, for the front surface reflection effect.  If the ordinary mirror is used as the second reflector, the reflectivity is low, no selectivity to wavelength, but also easy to produce double shadow.  By using the coated film surface reflector, the image obtained is not only high brightness, but also accurate without deviation, clearer picture quality, more vivid color.  The front surface reflector is widely used for optical high-fidelity scanning reflection imaging.

ATS Related Film Materials

ATS  began to produce zinc sulfide, magnesium fluoride, silicon monoxide and other optical coating materials from 1986, has more than 30 years of production experience up to now with complete categories, large output, can be used for the preparation of reflectors.
